Cooperative Board Leadership Development (known as CBLD and pronounced C-build) is an integrated program that supports the continual development of boards of directors through focused work with a CBLD consultant, trainings and events for directors and GMs, and ready access to board development and leadership resources.

CBLD is a calendar year program with an annual fee (see below) and is designed to support your board all year long. You can enroll online using our Input and Enrollment Form.

The program design supports your board on issues that are unique to your co-op and also addresses common issues of co-op boards across the country.

The building blocks

CBLD 2010 builds on the learning and success of five years of program development, and includes:

  • Board retreat planning and facilitation
  • Ongoing customizable consulting hours
  • CBL 101 — a foundations class for directors
  • Library of resources: Online Recorded Workshops, Field Guides, videos, sample policies, useful links, and valuable tools. New in fall 2009: GM Compensation Database.

CBLD 2010 program fee and related costs

The CBLD program fee for 2010 participation is $5,350. It is paid in four installments in March, June, September, and December.

Financial assistance may be available to support participation in CBLD. If your board faces financial constraints to participation, please complete the Input and Enrollment form and indicate a request for financial assistance. We will follow up with your board’s CBLD contact person with more information. Please complete the form no later than Oct. 24 if you request financial aid.

In addition to the participation fee, your co-op will also need to budget for:

  • Logistical costs for your retreat and travel costs for your consultant to attend.
  • Travel costs for your directors to attend CBL101
  • Telephone costs associated with consulting calls and online workshops.
