Senior Cooperative Housing Conference
CDS is known as the leading organization in education and support of the senior housing cooperative movement. Since May 2001, CDS has co-sponsored the annual Senior Cooperative Housing conference with the Minnesota Association of Cooperatives (MAC). The conference brings together members, board members, managers, developers and other professionals for the purpose of exchanging information and networking to ensure the success of senior cooperative residences. In 2005, a special developer session was added for seniors and developers to meet and discuss what was working and what could be improved by design (lighter doors, type of flooring) for senior cooperative residences.

Senior Cooperative Housing Network Workshops
CDS also co-sponsors (with the Minnesota Association of Cooperatives) Senior Cooperative Housing Network Workshops, which occur 3 to 4 times a year. Workshops are open to cooperative managers and member residents and cover key topics associated with senior cooperative housing including: governing laws, insurance, reserves, marketing, refurbishing polices, pet and smoking policies.

Senior Cooperative Housing Education Program
CDS, in a joint effort with the Minnesota Association of Cooperatives and Senior Cooperative Foundation developed the Senior Cooperative Housing Education Program (SCHEP). SCHEP is a comprehensive education program for senior cooperative housing members, staff and developers. It includes seven modules: legal, financial, community, governance, transfer of responsibility, working with management companies, aging-in-place and fair housing laws. Each module is about two hours in length and generally provided on site at the cooperative.
