Spiral Natural Foods Co-op

Spiral Natural Foods Co-op has been serving the Hastings, MN community for over 30 years, providing access to healthy, natural and local foods. In recent years, the Co-op has operated from a rented building on the historic Main Street of Hastings.

Early in 2011, the Co-op was informed by its landlord that the building is being sold, and the Co-op needs to relocate its operations by mid-2011. The Board and Management of the Co-op laid out a process to identify and assess potential new locations for the store. They selected a site that will provide better visibility and they successfully raised $200,000 in loans from some of their member-owners.  The co-op will fund the remaining cost of the $330,000 project with an outside loan, grants and donations.

Cooperative Development Services is supporting the Co-op by helping raise funds for the technical assistance required for the relocation. Donated funds will be used to pay for expenses related financial projections, new store design and equipment layout, member/bank loan preparation and packaging, legal or accounting expenses, and project leadership.
