CDS Holds Annual Meeting; David Swanson elected as new CDS board member

November 17, 2011-   Cooperative Development Services held its Annual Meeting on November 15 in Rochester MN.  Key issues addressed during the meeting were elections of board members, review of an annual independent audit, election of board officers, and receipt of reports on annual program achievements for the year ending August 31, 2011.

CDS is governed by a twelve member board of individuals drawn from, and morally accountable to, the cooperative community of the Upper Midwest.  Newly elected this year was David Swanson, who heads the cooperative practice for the law firm of Dorsey-Whitney.  Re-elected to three year terms were Michelle Schry, Peoples Food Co-op, La Crosse WI; Dennis Johnson, Cooperative Housing Resources, St. Paul MN; and Dennis Hunwardsen, recently retired from FCA Cooperative, Jackson MN.

The newly seated board subsequently elected Gary Sloan as Chair, David Holm as vice-chair, and Dennis Hunwardsen as secretary-treasurer.

The board received the annual independent audit conducted by the Madison-based accounting firm of Wegner and Associates.  An unqualified (“clean”) opinion was rendered on the consolidated books of the organization.  For the fiscal year ending August 31, 2011, CDS net assets increased $49,000 over the previous year, and stood at $294,248.
