Ken Campbell, principal of Campbell Consulting LLC, is an independent consultant affiliated with Cooperative Development Services (CDS). Ken produces feasibility studies and business plans, and provides business development, project management, strategic planning, and other services to new and existing co-ops. He also offers expertise in energy efficiency, renewable energy and value-added agriculture. His recent projects have included feasibility analyses of an ethanol plant, soybean processing enterprises, and biomass energy projects.

While Ken has worked on renewable energy projects of all kinds, including transportation-fuels and wind-power projects, his most extensive expertise is in solid-biomass projects.
An example of his work is A Feasibility Study Guide for an Agricultural Biomass Pellet Company, which the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) published in 2007. More recently, Ken completed a “Preliminary Biomass Fuel Plan for a Biomass Conversion Facility at Rock-Tenn’s St. Paul Recycled Paper Mill.” This Biomass Fuel Plan appraises the availability and cost of agricultural and woody biomass that could be delivered to a large-scale energy conversion facility located in the center of a metropolitan area.

Outside of the cooperative sector, Ken is extensively involved in development of energy-efficiency programs. In the past three years, Ken has designed two major programs which are now being implemented. One is a comprehensive energy-efficiency program for Minnesota school districts and local governments; and the other is a financing program for industrial companies, which is co-sponsored by Minnesota’s largest investor-owned utility, economic development authorities in that utility’s service territory, and the Minnesota Office of Energy Security. Ken also performs consulting in the areas of investment real estate, due diligence, and business brokerage.

Ken received his Bachelor’s Degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and completed his course work for a Master’s Degree in Public Administration at the University of Minnesota. Ken holds a commercial real estate license in Minnesota.
