CDS has a long history in helping people use the cooperative business model in emerging markets related to environmental sustainability. Our work has primarily been in the areas of:
- Sustainable and organic agriculture
- Renewable energy
- Sustainable forestry
CDS’ work in these sectors is most typically with groups that voluntarily seek to develop “market-led” approaches to these opportunities, where our skills in business development and analysis are most useful. While CDS’ work is sometimes used to support public policy development, we see ourselves as a community-based economic development organization, and not a policy or public advocacy organization.
