Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips (D- MN 3rd District) held an exclusive roundtable on employee ownership in mid-August, to which CDS was invited. The focus of the event highlighted the benefits of employee ownership as well as the barriers, particularly related to the financing and technical assistance challenges faced by Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) and worker-owned cooperatives. “I need to rely on you, you are my eyes and ears,” Congressman Phillips remarked regarding employee ownership and added, “We want to make Minnesota a nationally l recognized hub for this type of activity.”
Other cooperative roundtable participants included the HUB Bike Cooperative of Minneapolis, Shared Capital Cooperative, Northcountry Cooperative Foundation, and Happy Earth Cleaning Cooperative.
