A core function of CDS is connecting senior housing co-ops with each other and a wide variety of resources and tools, not only from other senior housing co-op organizations but with those who support the senior housing co-op community. We pride ourselves on being a neutral third-party, providing a wide variety of offerings to our member co-ops, such as networking opportunities, relevant quality programing through our workshops, and our national annual senior housing cooperative conference, all of which are led and managed by Vicky Chaput of CDS, with help and direction from our elected Senior Housing Cooperative Council (SHC Council) and SHC Advisory Committee. CDS, the SHC Council, and the SHC Advisory Committee are here to ensure the senior housing co-op community remains a vibrant, growing option in the greater senior housing sector throughout the nation.

- The ability to learn more in-depth about the larger senior housing co-op community

This group is instrumental in helping CDS determine the topics and schedule for the SHC Council meetings and other programming and needs throughout the year, with input from member cooperatives and participates with other volunteers for the SHC Conference Planning Committee.
The Senior Housing Cooperative Council (SHC Council) is a committee comprised of members, directors, and managers of senior housing cooperatives, who are members of CDS.

During SHC Council meetings, best practices of senior housing co-ops are shared through a Q & A format, as well as building a network where senior housing co-ops can exchange information.
Updates are provided from CDS and our partner organizations: Senior Cooperative Foundation, Cooperative Housing Resources, the SCH Purchasing Cooperative and other partner organizations. These partner organizations are business entities or individuals that serve the Senior Housing Cooperative industry (i.e.: developers, management companies, insurance agencies, auditors, architects, etc.).
Senior Cooperative Foundation
The Senior Cooperative Foundation promotes the successful development and operation of senior housing cooperatives. They have extensive experience in delivering education and cooperative solutions for issues facing senior housing co-ops and their member-owners. CDS partnered with the Senior Cooperative Foundation to develop the Senior Co-op Housing Education Program (SCHEP), a training program for member-owners. This multi-module training has been delivered to over 4,000 new owners, and can be provided to your co-op as well! SCF researched and identified Guiding Principles – a set of standards and principles important to the success of senior housing cooperatives and the satisfaction of their member-owners. For more information on SCHEP, Guiding Principles and other SCF Programs please go to seniorcoops.org.
