Our team supported the planning and execution of a new 8-member co-op conversion just a couple of weeks ago in a rural Wisconsin community! UWCC provided governance support, CDS provided business planning and loan preparation support, and after due diligence, Shared Capital Cooperative provided financing to a brand new worker-owned co-op that will preserve union manufacturing jobs that would otherwise have been lost in a corporate closure. Kudos to the plant manager and employees who recognized a profitable opportunity to retain operations of their facility, and to take the risk of moving from workers to owners! As anticipated, the new co-op will not only preserve employment but also retain local supply chains, local vendors and community tax base. Watch for a future newsletter article when we can share more of this news, as well as other stories of our support for worker-owned businesses!
